Answers to the questions I hear most. Can’t find yours? Write to info@fabianschneider.net.

Which cameras work with Hush?

Any camera you have set up in Apple’s Home app. If the Home app shows its live picture, Hush can show it too. Cameras that only work in their maker’s own app won’t appear in Hush.

What do I need to run Hush?

An iPhone or iPad with iOS 18 or later, with your cameras set up in the Home app, ideally with a charger and a stand by the bed.

Does Hush need an account or the cloud?

No. There is no Hush account and no Hush cloud. Your children’s names, notes and reports stay on your device. Video comes straight from your camera through HomeKit, the same way as in the Home app.

Why does the screen stay on, and how do I set up the nightstand?

HomeKit stops streaming video as soon as the screen locks, and an app can’t switch the display off by itself. So Hush stays open and dims the screen to black instead of locking. For the night:

  • Plug in. Streaming video all night uses real power. Keep the phone on its charger.
  • Keep Hush open. Don’t switch to another app and don’t press the side button.
  • Turn on Guided Access. Settings › Accessibility › Guided Access, then triple-click the side button inside Hush. A stray swipe or a small hand can’t leave the app.
  • Silence the rest. Use Do Not Disturb, or a Sleep Focus that allows nothing, so no message lights up the room.
  • Set the volume. The room’s sound plays on this phone, so use the volume buttons.

The same tips are in Hush under Settings.

Does Hush hear crying?

No. Hush doesn’t detect sound or crying itself: iOS gives apps no access to a camera’s audio. What Hush does is play the room’s sound through the speaker, like the Home app, so you hear your child yourself. Set the volume with the volume buttons. Hush is not an alarm and doesn’t replace supervision: see the safety notice.

What wakes the screen?

A touch. With Hush Premium, also a HomeKit motion sensor, for example your camera’s own motion sensor in the Home app. The sensor needs to show up in the Home app for Hush to use it.

Is my video recorded or uploaded?

No. Hush shows the live stream and doesn’t record it. It only records its own events, such as parent checks and sensor motion, and keeps them on your device.

How do I restore Hush Premium?

Open Hush, then Settings › Hush Premium › Restore Purchase. Use the same Apple Account you bought it with.

How do I delete my data?

Delete the app. Everything Hush keeps lives on your device only, so there is nothing stored anywhere else to delete.

Can I rely on Hush to keep my child safe?

No. Hush is not a medical device. It doesn’t monitor breathing or vital signs and doesn’t replace supervision. Please read the safety notice.

Still stuck?

Write to me and say which iPhone or iPad you use, its iOS version and what you see. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
